Five Benefits of Frameless Glass Shower Doors

Posted on: 28 December 2020

When updating your shower enclosure, look no further than frameless glass doors. The simple, clean look of this enclosure complements almost any bathroom design. Plus, there are several other benefits that you should know about.

1. Creates a Spacious Feeling

If you have a small or narrow bathroom, the space can feel quite tiny and crowded when the shower curtain is pulled closed. A glass door visually opens up the space so that the bathroom feels much larger. In bathrooms with a window, a glass door will also allow more light to penetrate the room, which also provides a feeling of spaciousness.

2. Mold and Stain Resistant

Mold stains can be a major concern on some enclosures. Fiberglass enclosures are very prone to mold and discoloration, particularly in humid climates or areas with hard water. Framed glass enclosures can also develop mold around the edges of the frame. Frameless doors don't have the nooks and crannies that trap moisture and lead to mold growth, so there are no worries about mold or its stains.

3. Easy Cleaning

A frameless door is much easier to clean compared to one that has a frame. All you need is a squeegee and glass cleaner, and cleaning can be completed with a few swipes of the squeegee blade. There's no need to scrub around the edges of the frame.  If you have issues with limescale due to hard water, you may also need to periodically wipe the glass down with a scale remover to clean off the water spots, but you would have to do this with any type of enclosure.

4. Allows for Safety

For homes with children, elderly family members, or others that may have impaired mobility, a glass shower enclosure provides some safety because it is easy to monitor the person as they bathe. You can opt for a frosted glass enclosure instead of clear glass so that they will still have some privacy while they are in the shower. Just make sure you have safety rails in the shower since a frameless shower enclosure shouldn't have a lot of weight put on it when someone needs to balance themselves.

5. Customizable

Odd shaped shower area? No problem! Frameless glass enclosures are fully customizable because your installer can simply cut the glass to fit the space, no matter how small or oddly shaped. With framed showers, you are stuck using pre-made pieces that may not always fit well.
